Our Story

When you see the flames from our broiler in the window and walk into our restaurant, our hope is that you immediately know you will get all natural made to order food. Chixy Natural is a family-owned restaurant in Costa Mesa, CA. We are most concerned that you enjoy our food and you are happy with the experience. This is our story.

The Beginning

Chixy Natural Owners Roya and Fariba at the RotisserieIt was our lifetime dream to own our own business. In fact, we waited half our lives to open and run our own restaurant.

We started out very small, and it was financially and operationally challenging. Most importantly, starting a new restaurant is very risky. We were able to create some new jobs in Costa Mesa and worked very hard to make it through those first years.

History and Background

Roya Hashemi and Fariba Khavari were both born in Iran and practiced the Baha’i faith as children. At that time, Baha’i was Iran’s largest non-Muslim religion. Unfortunately, Baha’i faith was a target for persecution.

Roya left Iran for England at the same time that Fariba moved the United States with her mother. This was just before the Iran revolution in 1978 and 1979 that overthrew the Shah and ushered in the Ayatollahs.

While Fariba was in the US working in a bank, Roya moved to Portugal where she and her husband opened a baby store in 1992.

The following years were spent raising their children and dreaming about the day when they could open their own restaurant. Finally in 2010, Roya returned to Southern California and the sisters (and their husbands) began to plan their restaurant business.

Chixy Natural Becomes a Reality

Chixy Natural Rotisserie Flame Broiler
We modeled Chixy Natural after a relative’s successful restaurant that features rotisserie chicken and fresh, homemade menu items. Planning a restaurant is very challenging. Like all business planning, you set goals and timelines. Ultimately, they change and you keep moving forward as best you can.

California regulations were also challenging and difficult to understand. The construction cost twice as much as we planned and longer than we thought. Specifically, it took us 9 months to build, prepare and get ready to open. We were so anxious and afraid because expenses were high.

We opened Chixy Natural in March of 2011.

Optimism and Faith

We are grateful that we had and continue to have the opportunity to run our own restaurant and serve our community.

Our goal has always been healthy, good quality food at fast food prices.

We don’t and will never take shortcuts to achieve our vision. This isn’t an easy job; we will never give up. Also, we have been fortunate to find good employees who also work hard to serve the community.

Optimism and faith in our vision carries us through each year, month, day and customer order.

Today and Beyond

Today, we roast hundreds of chickens daily.

Our process is the same to ensure fresh, moist all-natural chicken. A roasted chicken will dry out in 90 minutes so you will get yours well before that. We only serve chickens that are moist and fresh for our customers. We also have steak on the menu as well.

All our menu items are made to order and use all natural ingredients. We think this is what our customers deserve.

Every year, we continue to modify and improve our process. We will do whatever it takes to make Chixy Natural a trusted name for Costa Mesa chicken, Newport Beach chicken, and Irvine chicken lovers. The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 11:00am to 9:00pm. Chixy Natural is closed on Sundays.

We thank you very much for visiting our restaurant and hope to see you again soon.
